My plea for the preservation of the component elements of national identity, on one hand, and also for the process of personal and social development of each of us, on the other hand, is the dominant theme of this volume, bringing together articles published in previous volumes and cultural and political journals. Personal as well as social and political harmony could be accomplished only when a complex of laws concord.
The first part of this volume, entitled: Power Politics from a Global Perspective, includes articles focused on the principles of responsibility and respect, which reflect a high level of consciousness, capable to really implement human rights and dignity. All of these values could structure a new form of citizenship, functioning at a different level, that would be able to eliminate the roots of the many forms of discrimination and make the governing process a responsible one. This process of governing, if it were democratic, should be based on civic consciousness and social responsibility – two fundamental values for the future politics and also two basic characteristics of the educated citizen.
The second part of the volume, entitled Traditional Perspectives on Culture, includes articles focused on the concept of the Sacred, a concept reflecting the deepest levels of our world and of our being, that seem to be ignored more and more each day, I could say, in a programmed process. We have to admit we are living in a world dominated almost completely by material values, a world which seems to guide the human being toward comfortable ignorance. By ignoring the truth about our fundamental values, which are of course spiritual, we become accomplices to our own destruction. The articles of this part speak about models, about the vital relationship existing between Master and Disciple or about the structuring social and political influence of the wise counsellor along centuries. It is a plea for the need of a high spiritual level of our models. There are other articles centred on specific spiritual traditions such as shamanism or traditional healing or the need to preserve our national language, the core element of our social and political identity.
I also included an article as a solution, a possible therapy that is to be activated in the centre of our being, where the most valuable elements of our spirituality are to be found. If we are to be healed and act like authentic human beings we must accept that we are structured and guided by spiritual values. We only need to wake up and remember. If we deny these aspects of our being, we deny ourselves and all that we should become. Our destiny is to evolve continuously!
